ENGLISH AND WORLD RELIGION WITH MR. TOOLE

____________________________________________________________________________________

Mr Toole’s english course was the second class of the day. Mr Toole always kept things interesting, cracking a joke almost every day within 30 seconds of walking into the class. We started off the course learning proper essay formatting. Then, we learned how to analyze a book to see the deeper meanings in it. Then, (surprise) we wrote an essay on the book that we read and analyzed. Aside from the work, the course was full of laughs and memorable moments.

World Religions was a continuation of Mr Toole’s English course. The jokes didn’t stop when the bell rang at the end of second period, as we had Toole for another hour. This class taught us all about the unique cultures, origins of different religions, as well as the similar characteristics they all share. World Religions had plenty of interesting presentations, involving everything from a Shinto car blessing ritual to a Hindu wedding. This class was the source of many good times and some of the best Mr Toole quotes.

AN INTERVIEW WITH MR. TOOLE

 Ant advice for future globalites?

*bird sounds* My advice for them is two-fold: reflect on your ability to organize and if it’s weak, address it now. If you're not interested in politics and world issues, connect yourself now so you are engaged when the course starts. Also, get your sleep now.

What is your favourite memory of this year?

Seeing the group hug when the Germans left and the exchange ended.

What is your favourite quote of the year?

Anything Kai said in his Texan accent.

Why is Global important?

Because it promotes building bridges rather than tearing them down, or building walls (wink). It really gives students a different perspective.

How does Global change students?

I find that Global matures the students in a way that other classes can't and helps them gain a more academic perspective.

What do you find different between Global and a regular class?

With Global I get to know all of the students on a personal level and get to connect with 28 awesome kids each year which is something I really enjoy and is different from a regular classes.

How did you get involved in Global?

Years ago, Morri asked me and I actually turned him down at first, but two years later he asked me again and I decided to try it out - and here I am now.
