Riptide - Vance Joy
00:00 / 00:00

Riptide is included in our global playlist because we listened to it and performed it in cuba. This is important to all of us because it was the first song that all the Canadians and Cubans sang together. It also was important to us because we loved the ocean and hung out by it a lot.

Johnny Däpp - Lorenz Büffel
00:00 / 00:00

Johnny Däpp was a song that many Germans and Canadians didn’t like, but somehow it always managed to come on during hangouts and bus rides. It was also one of the first German songs many of us Canadians had heard. Its upbeat and was easy for us to learn the words because it is repetitive.

Body Like A Back Road - Sam Hunt
00:00 / 00:00

Body like a back road is a country song that our Germans fell in love with. They’d ask us to play it on car rides or on bus rides when we were there.

Imagine - John Lennon
00:00 / 00:00

Imagine is a significant song because for it was one of the first songs we learned on the ukulele. We also sang this song on our last night in Cuba. As people trying to gain a global perspective it is important because it mentions ending violence, and changing the world while reflecting on peace and happiness.

Despacito - Luis Fonsi
00:00 / 00:00

Despacito was a fun song. That is now since returning to Cuba a song when listened to reminds us of the Cuban’s, Pensay specifically. Every time we were on the bus to a new location he would bust out his guitar and he would sing and play despacito.

Shaky Shaky - Daddy Yankee
00:00 / 00:00

Shaky Shaky was a trending Cuban song like the whip and nae-nae in North America. It was easy for us to follow and also fun to listen to. We, along with the Cubans, got excited when it played because we liked dancing to it so much.

Home - Phillip Phillips
00:00 / 00:00

Throughout the global year's a song is chosen to represent or be the theme song of said year. When our song came around it was decided that we do Home. To us, this song reminds us that we love to travel but we are also very grateful for what we have and our homes. We also consider the students in the class to be our family so when we’re together we feel like we’re at home and we have a sense of belonging.

Stay With Me - Sam Smith
00:00 / 00:00

Stay with Me is a song that was sung by Olivia Ray. It’s significant to our trip because when our German’s left we wanted them to stay with us, then again we felt the same leaving Cuba and Germany. This song reflects on how even though we didn't “stay” together we are together in our hearts.

Harvest Moon - Neil Young
00:00 / 00:00

Harvest Moon was a significant song to us when we were in Cuba. It was performed by some canadians who played the ukulele and some sang. It was a significant song to perform to the Cuban’s because this song holds many Canadian thies (Neil Young the man who wrote this is a Canadian singer songwriter born in Ontario, his Dad wrote children's books about hockey- Canada's national winter sport)

Guantanamera - Compay Segundo
00:00 / 00:00

Guantanamera is a cigar brand but also a very repetitive and organically Cuban song. Everywhere we went the song was playing in the background. A vivid memory that I have is singing it in the market after telling someone I was Canadian and he said are you sure you’re not Cuban.
