My ISU is on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing and the Organized Crime nexus. This paper explores how Illegal fishing practises are closely affiliated with crimes that would classify IUU fishing as a transnational organized crime. This occurs in various forms such as money laundering, drug trafficking and human rights violations; these include sex trafficking, Forced labour and modern slavery. This issue is a world wide occurrence though is most prominent in South Africa, Thailand, and West Africa. I chose this topic because of the connection it has to many different issues in the world such as environmental, economical and affects this issues has on a large portion of the world.
